The hosts struck first through Guirassy in the 14th minute before Karim Adeyemi doubled the advantage in the 25th. Heidenheim responded immediately through Eren Dinkçi in the 26th minute, then Waldemar Anton pulled one back for Dortmund in the 44th minute before Julian Niehues completed the first-half turnaround with goals in the 45+5th and 48th minutes to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
